Patio Door Selection
When picking any door for your house it is very important to know about the different materials that your door could be made up of. Your Entry Door is often the first thing people notice when they look at your house. Having one you are proud of will go a long way in the overall aesthetic of your house The type of material you choose to have your door made with not only greatly affects the look of the door but many other things as well. Here are some of the most common types of materials that are used when making doors.
Wooden Entry Door
If you choose a Wooden Entry Door it may be the most aesthetically pleasing but it is also the most expensive door type with consistent maintenance needing to be done to maintain its great look. This is because wood can rot, fade away, or morph due to weathering over time. A wooden entry door offers the classic, old-fashioned look but usually the highest initial price of any door type. Aside from the initial high-selling point, the maintenance of keeping your door in pristine conditions will add up over time as well.
Fiberglass Entry Door
A door type that has been becoming increasingly popular these days is the Fiberglass Entry Door. You can get a Fiberglass entry door with a wooden-like finish. This way it will have the look of a wooden door without having to put so much work into taking care of it. This is because our fiberglass doors are resistant to rot and from the damage that insects can do to your entry door. Fiberglass doors do a great job at insulating your home, so it is very unlikely that there will ever be a “draft” by your fiberglass door. This also means they are energy efficient so selecting a fiberglass door will lower your power and heating needs.
Steel Entry Door
If you choose to select a steel entry door then you will be choosing the sturdiest, most durable door. Steel doors are the most weather-resistant out of any standard door. On top of that steel entry doors are also the best type of entry door to select in order to protect your house from break-ins. The reason is steel entry doors are heavier and made up of a stronger material than the other door choices of entry doors. Steel entry doors, and steel doors in general, are also very customizable. There is a wide variety of color and design options that you can choose from. Similar to the fiberglass entry doors, the steel doors are also great home insulators and therefore very energy efficient.
Patio Door Selection
While your front door is obviously very important to have patio doors that comfortably fit your home can be just as, if not more important. Patio doors are typically made with the same materials as entry doors; with the exception that Vinyl is a very popular material to make patio doors with. This is because Vinyl is durable, energy-efficient, and relatively low cost compared to other materials. For an even more optimal level of energy efficiency, you can opt to have your Patio doors made with Low-E Glass. This will make them even more energy-efficient and give you better control over the temperature inside your home! Now I will go over the types of patio doors and hopefully help you decide which one suits your home best.
Sliding Patio Doors
Probably the most common/popular type of patio doors, the sliding patio doors are typically fairly light and easy to open. This is great if you’re having a party or gathering where you expect people to be constantly going in and outside. A sliding patio door needs much less space to open and close and they typically can be opened very easily. Another benefit of having sliding patio doors is that can they serve as an extra set of windows and provide more natural lighting to your house. This is because typically, they’re almost entirely made of glass. They are also very window-like. You can say this because sliding patio doors almost always come equipped for/with a screen so you can still let fresh air in while also keeping insects out.
French Patio Doors
French Patio Doors look far more like your typical door than the sliding doors mentioned above. There are plenty of options to customize your French Patio doors. These range from the number of doors, to the color, to the amount (and type) of glass used for the doors. Similar to sliding doors french doors are usually made mostly out of glass. Also like sliding doors, it is because glass lets in more natural lighting and provides more visibility from the inside.
